Two Sisters 2019 (Hin-Chi)

Two Sisters (2019) is a Malaysian psychological horror film directed by James Lee. It follows Mei Yue, recently released from a psychiatric institution, as she reunites with her older sister Mei Xi. The two return to their long-abandoned family home, where eerie and unexplained occurrences begin to surface. As tensions rise and reality blurs, a buried family secret slowly comes to light—revealing trauma, betrayal, and the haunting legacy of their past.

After being discharged from a psychiatric hospital, Mei Yue (Lim Mei Fen) moves back into her abandoned family home with her older sister, Mei Xi (Emily Lim). As they settle in, unsettling events unfold—objects move, shadows lurk, and paranoia grows. Mei Yue appears stable, but Mei Xi's grip on reality begins to unravel.

As tensions rise, past trauma resurfaces. Mei Xi accuses Mei Yue of deception and betrayal, culminating in a shocking twist: Mei Xi has been hallucinating everything—Mei Yue has been the caregiver all along. The house’s hauntings are projections of Mei Xi’s buried trauma, rooted in childhood abuse by their father and their mother’s resulting suicide.

The film builds toward a psychological twist: it is revealed that Mei Xi, not Mei Yue, is the one struggling with delusions. Mei Yue has been caring for her all along. The haunting visions are manifestations of Mei Xi’s repressed trauma from childhood abuse and the suicide of their mother. Two Sisters explores mental illness, trauma, and the fragile boundary between memory and madness in a chilling, atmospheric setting.
